Discover The Ria Formosa

 

Be aware that on each beach there are one or more small bars and restaurants. Otherwise, do not hesitate to use the beach equipment available in your house (cooler backpack with ice packs in the freezer, parasols, racket set, beach towels, etc.)

 

Accessible by boat directly from the Olhão pier
Armona, Culatra and Farol, 3 magnificent natural islands of the Ria Formosa We advise you to buy your tickets in advance to avoid queuing when you want to get there. The beaches are all beautiful with turquoise waters and white sand. A guaranteed change of scenery.
- Armona: 15 minutes by ferry (see timetables at the end of this guide)
- Culatra: 30 minutes by ferry.
- Farol: 40 minutes by ferry.

 

Accessible by bike 
Praia dos Cavacos, closest to Olhão, it is quiet and wild.

 

Fuseta has a small family beach. You can also, from there, take the ferry for 10 minutes to Praia da Fuseta, another superb long beach.

Accessible by car 
Praia dos Cavacos, closest to Olhão, it is quiet and wild.

Praia do Faro, a beach accessible in 20 minutes from Olhão. Younger atmosphere and surfer with waves, we like to end the day on the top of the dune at Café do Zé. Toastas are wonderful.

 

Praia do Gigi, you arrive at the end of the road on a shaded paid parking lot. You take your things and cross the Ria Formosa on a pontoon to reach the dune facing the Atlantic Ocean. The atmosphere is distinguished, there is a beach bar.

 

Praia do Anção, classier atmosphere. In a preserved environment, there are 3 magnificent 2Passos bars and beach restaurants on stilts with a nice view.

 

Praia de Vale do Lobo, classier atmosphere. The beach is at the foot of magnificent red cliffs.

 

Praia do Barril, accessible by small train or on foot. Superb fine sandy beach on an island in the Ria Formosa. Don't miss the Anchor Cemetery.

 

Praia da Fábrica, more secret, you have to go to the small village of Fábrica and cross on foot at low tide to reach the tongue of white sand bathed in transparent turquoise waters. A magical place.
